Ready CASH, Amherst, Botetourt, Rockbridge, Virginia, 1799-1886
This is one of those names that you run across in your genealogy searches, where you say "Really?".
I've seen Ready refered to as Redding as well, but most commonly Ready and it appears that way in the censuses.
According to the census reports Ready CASH was born in Virginia, and I'm guessing Amherst, but I am not sure.
He also lived in Botetourt County and Rockbridge County, Virginia.
He may have had more than one wife, I know one of them was Mary HARTIGAN.
I am not sure if she was the mother of Martha Jane CASH who is one of G-G-G-Grandmother, but I believe she was.
Timeline and Facts for Ready CASH
1799 or 1807
Ready CASH was born in Virginia, possibly Amherst.
His father was
Thomas CASH, and I believe his mother was Jane CAMRON.
Though given the date which I believe he was born, which is 1799/1800,
I think it may be more likely that Jemina PEACHY was his mother.
However, Thomas and Jane were married in 1806, which does make you think she is not Ready's mother.
Many times I've seen Ready's birth year listed as 1807, but I suspect people pencil
that in because Thomas and Jane were married in 1806.
Census reports lead me to believe otherwise.
1808
Brother, Leroy P CASH was born.
29 Aug 1823
Ready CASH, age 24, son of
Thomas CASH marries Mary HARTIGAN, age 23, parents unknown in Augusta, Virginia.

Daughter, Martha Jane CASH was born in Virginia.
1830 Census, Rockbridge, Virginia
In the 1830 census, Ready, who we assume is the oldest male in the house is listed as being between the ages of 20 and 29, which places his year of birth between 1801 and 1829. There are two females in the household listed between the ages of 20 and 29. I assume one of those is Mary HARTIGAN, Ready's wife. Both women would have been born between 1801 and 1829.
There are two children listed as living in the house. One is a boy between the ages of 5 and 9; he would have been born between 1821 and 1825. The second is a girl who is listed as being between 0 and 4 years of age; this puts her birth year between 1826 and 1830.
I do not have a son for Ready and Mary who was born in that time frame. Martha Jane CASH was born on 24 May, 1826, so I assume she is the daughter.
Aug 1830
Son, James C CASH was born in Virginia.
1840 Census, Rockbridge, VA
In the 1840 census, again I assume that Ready is the oldest male, and he is listed as being between 40 and 49. The oldest female in the house is listed as being between 40 and 49 as well. This puts both of them with a birth year between 1791 and 1800. This is not consistent with what is listed above, but not completely unbelievable if they were both born around 1799 or 1800. I assume that the oldest female is Mary HARTIGAN, Ready's wife.
There are 5 children listed in this census.
Three boys, the first age is listed between 5 and 9, giving a birth year between 1831 and 1835. The second is between 10 and 14, giving a birth year between 1826 and 1830. The third is between 15 and 19, giving a birth year between 1821 and 1825. I believe that Ready and Mary had a son, James C CASH, born in Oct 1829, who would have been the second son. The first son, is probably, Franklin CASH who in other census is listed as being born in 1833. The oldest son, show as being born between 1821 and 1825 is still a mystery.
There are two daughters in the household: the oldest is between the ages of 15 and 19, being born between 1821 and 1825. The second is between the ages of 0 and 4, born between 1836 and 1840. I believe the oldest is Martha Jane CASH, whose birth year is 1826, and that the younger daughter is Virginia CASH who is listed in other census as being born in 1839.
Neighbors
The 1840 census is not listed in alphabetical order, so I assume that they are listed in the order the census taker found them. Neighbors in the area of Ready CASH were:
David LEECH(?), Jr, William WILLSON, Robert MONTGOMERY, XXXgh WARGER(?),
James CLARK, William KINCAID, James GOLD, Caleb PARKER, Robert TOSAM(?),

1850 Census, Botetourt, Virginia
In 1850, Ready is listed as being 51, or born in 1799. He is a Farmer with no value listed for real estate. Mary is listed as being 50, or born in 1800. She is listed as not being able to read or write.
There are 3 children in the house: Franklin, age 17, male, a Laborer; Mary, age 14, female; Virginia, age 11, female. Both Mary and Virginia are listed as being married within the year, but I doubt that. I believe this is a clerical error and that they both attended school within the year.
Also living in the house is Nancy J Hartigan, age 24, female. I have no idea who she might be.

This census is really hard to read, so I hope I get this right.

1860 Census, Botetourt, Virginia
In 1860, we again find Ready and his family in Botetourt, and he is listed as being 50 years old in this census, which would have him born in 1810. His wife Mary is listed as being 45, which would mean she was born in 1815. This would mean that Ready would have been 13 years old when he got married in 1823 and Mary (if this is the same Mary), would have been 8. I doubt that. Maybe this is a different Ready and Mary CASH? I doubt that as well.
Ready is listed as a Laborer this year, with a personal value of 100.
There are two children listed in the house, Mary CASH, age 23, which would mean she was born in 1837. And Virginia CASH, age 22, born in 1838. These ages are consistent with the 1850 census.

1870 Census, Natural Bridge, Rockbridge, Virginia
In 1870, we find Ready and his family back in Rockbridge. His son James lives next door. Ready, or R. M. Cash, is listed as being 62, occupation Farmer, real esate value of 3,000, and personal value of 100. (I wonder if he inheirted some land in the 1860's. I'll have to check.) This means that Ready was born in 1808. Mary CASH is listed as being 68, which places her year of birth in 1802. She is listed as Keeping House.
There are two other CASH women in the house, Mary E CASH, age 27, and Virginia CASH, age 23. If this Mary CASH is Ready and Mary's daughter, it would place her birth year in 1843, and Virginia's in 1847, both of which seem wrong. This could be another Mary and Virginia. I believe that Mary CASH, daughter of Ready and Mary marries a John EATON some time in the 1860's, but I am not sure.
There is also a Lewis JOHNSTON, age 13, male, black, who is listed as not being able to read or write.
