WILLIAM SMITH, Amherst County, to GEORGE DAVIS, Amherst County, for 50 pounds, 120 acres surveyed 13 Nov 1771. S side and joining Otter Creek. Lines: ROBERT JOHNSON. Wit: SAMUEL HIGGINBOTHAM, JERIMAH TAYLOR, BALLINGER WADE, RICHARD POWELL. Original delivered to Grantee, 24 Dec 1788.
Note: I believe this to be my WILLIAM SMITH, who married PHILADELPHIA FRANLKIN on 17 Nov 1784. WILLIAM and PHILDEPHELIA were the parents of HARRIET SMITH who married WILLIS SMITH. Also, BALLINGER WADE is the half brother of ABIGAL HARDWICK WADE, who I believe to be the mother of MAHALA REYNOLDS (father JOHN REYNOLDS), who married TARLTON GILLESPIE. I believe that TARLTON and WILLIS were brothers.

WILLIAM and JOSEPH CABELL to CLOUGH SHELTON. They set forth that under Act of Assembly in 1766 to vest certain lands in trustees -- JOHN CHISWELL, Gentlman, 31 May 1760, to JOHN ROBINSON -- 20,000 acres on Rockfish in trust to JOHN ROBINSON. ROBINSON sold part of it and departed this life without conveying title and it is necessary to vest title of purchase and residue. Land not conveyed was vested in PEYTON RANDOLPH, ARCHIBALD CARY, SETH WARD, WILLIAM CABELL and JOSEPH CABELL, or survivors to sell -- balance to exrs. of JOHN ROBINSON -- dispersed and remote situation of trustees and "other accidents" -- all are now dead but two CABELLS who are situtated convenient to each other and to the land. 190 acres of Rockfish tract to CLOUGH SHELTON for 19-4 poinds. Lines: Davis Creek, ELIZABETH TULEY, JAMES BROOKS, LEE HARRIS. Wit: GIDEON CREWS, NORBORN THOMAS, JAMES NEVIL, WILL CABELL JR, N. CABELL, JOSEPH C. MIGGINSON.
